Mustard Seed Versus McWorld Tom Sine
Tom is a friend and I've been reading his work since the early 1990s. He is a future's researcher who really knows his stuff. In this, his best book I think, he talks about reinventing life and faith for the future. His research into western culture is second to none and his application to us as individual Christians is sobering, stimulating and stretching. A great book.

Sophie's World: A Novel About the History of Philosophy Jostein Gaarder
This book by Norway’s celebrated author Jostein Gaarder is already something of a classic in its field. Ingeniously written as a tale within a tale, it uses the genre of a child’s adventure to unlock mysteries of various philosophical schools of thought. I think it would have to be the best introduction to the history of philosophy I have seen. It simplifies aspects of philosophy without ever straying into the area of the simplistic. And, because the story is written to show how a child interacts with philosophical ideas, it is couched in a style that is quite easy to follow (something not usually associated with the work of philosophers). Yet is retains a sense of the profound nature of various philosophical systems. Basically, it’s one of those rare books that’s very difficult to slip into one genre – and very hard to describe to someone who hasn’t read it! It’s worth the time.

How Now Shall We Live? Charles W. Colson, Nancy Pearcey
Charles Colson will be a name familiar to many widely read Christian people. As a former high-flying lawyer and White House aide to President Nixon, he was implicated in the Watergate scandal and spent time in prison as a result. During that season of his life he became a Christian and emerged to found an organisation that resources and supports prisoners. Today, he is widely regarded as one of the leading Christian voices in the US and a man with a unique understanding of the place of the church in mainstream society. In this invaluable book, Colson and his co-author Nancy Pearcey study how the Christian worldview differs from that of post-modern culture. They trace the development of the rift between the Christian outlook on life and that fostered by Western culture today. If you are interested in Christian having influence – and what Christian should be – and you’re hungry for material to help you understand the p.c. culture in which you live, this is a book you need to read.
