The Emerging Church -- South Africa
South Africa, the rainbow nation, has seen many changes since the end of the apartheid era.
One of the churches which was at the forefront of challenging apartheid, was the famous Rhema Bible Church in Johannesburg, led by Pastor Ray McCauley.
In March, Mal Fletcher was a featured speaker at the annual convention hosted by the church, this year entitled ' The Emerging Church'. Other keynote speakers included Jentezen Franklin, John Bevere, Kenneth Ulmer, Ray Bevan and Rick Godwin.
Mal's wife Davina joined him on this week-long visit.
They were kept very busy during the week with main stage sessions, workshops, and a number of media interviews, followed by a major outreach event on Saturday evening and four services on Sunday.
More than 100 people made decisions for Christ on the Saturday, and many more again throughout the Sunday.
Hosting the even, Pastor Ray McCauley said: 'All that attended the conference were blessed with the dynamic messages from the Speakers. There were over 1700 registered delegates and the evening services which was open to all, were almost full house.'
After a very tight schedule, Mal commented that: ' This is one of the world's truly great churches, with more than 41,000 members and the goal of reaching 100,000 over the next year or so.'
'It is always an honour to invest in two the work of pastor Ray and his team and to see against the crows not just in science, but in influence in the nation and throughout Africa.'
During the conference, Mal also conducted a TV interview with pastor Ray on the future of Africa and what can be done to solve the continent's major social problems, including aids and rampant poverty.
The interview will form part of a new series produced by Next Wave International, for release later in 2007. Watch this site for more details.
