Helsinki - Rock The Planet!
Helsinki, Finland may be among the world's leading cities for the use of the Internet, but it has never had a reputation for being a creative, cutting-edge city when it comes to church life.
But all that is changing!
Mika Yrjola and the team at Youth Alive Finland are now drawing 1200 young people to every Youth Alive event. In early May, the 'Rock the Planet' event almost filled one of the city's best theatres. Gospel Gansters (USA) were the featured artists, and Mal Fletcher the speaker. The music was high energy and the heart was ministry to peoples' needs. The local Youth Alive band were also a real hit - they just keep getting better.
As with all the events based on the Next W@ve model, this one brought together powerful contemporay worship, in-your-face preaching, a public call for commitment to Jesus AND a great concert. Not bad for Helsinki!! And the best is yet to come.
Please pray for Mika and the team as they break new ground in a city that desperately needs a contemporary GenX and GenNeXt presentation of the good news.

In the UK in 2008, the Church does not seem to do well on broadcast media. Yet it has important things to say. I want to thank you Mal for your forward-looking approach to sorting this out.

Thanks so much for visiting Speak The Word Church International (Minneapolis). I am a baby boomer who sat with a GenXer - we both knew that what you said was right on. It made me think. I like that.

Mal Fletcher, I would just like to take this opportunity to say thankyou for the inspiration you are. I was at Rock Nations and found your ministry incredibly refreshing especially when you spoke on Celebrity and what happens when that creeps into the church.
