Planet Shakers Church - Set to Shake a City
The Planet Shakers City Church in Melbourne, Australia, is growing rapidly and is set to change perceptions on what a new urban church can achieve. The church, led by Pastors Russell and Sam Evans, has seen more than 1100 people come to Christ since it was launched just 10 months ago.
Mal Fletcher recently spoke in the church, and to the full leadership team, and had this to say afterwards: 'Melbourne is my hometown, so the success of this great church holds a special interest for me. After being part of the Planet Shakers annual conference for the past few years, I was expecting something extraordinary - but the church definitely exceeds expectations. This church has a passion for God and for people - a passion that you can actually feel when you walk in the door!'
Russell Evans invited Mal to Australia specifically to contribute to the life of the church in this, its formative stages. Mal has been a guest speaker at the annual Planet Shakers conference over the past 4 years - an event that attracts thousands of young people from across the nation and abroad.
'The conference is, of course, an amazing event,' says Mal. 'But the great thing about City Church is that only a very small number of people who have joined it have ever been to the conference!'
'The church is built very much on quality leaders, many of whom have come from interstate to join with Russell and Sam, and people who are coming to Christ for the first time.'
'Melbourne has needed a church like this for a long time,' Mal adds. 'Especially in the downtown area. I'm looking forward to my next visit, God willing, and seeing how the church grows over the years.'
Planet Shakers conference 2005 takes place in January, with week-long events in Brisbane, Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth. For more details on the conference and the church, go to www.planetshakers.com.

I absolutely agree with you Mal on the danger of elevating of our leaders. There is something in man to want 'a king'. It's present in our current celebrity culture. It's curious when we see it in the world and it's pathetic when we see it in Christendom.
