Acting On The Promise

20 April 2024

Exodus 3:10, 20 'So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt … I will stretch out my hand and strike the Egyptians with all the wonders that I will perform among them. After that, he will let you go.'

Moses was called by God to speak to Pharaoh, the greatest king on earth at that time. He was promised authority and miracle power to back up his words. That's the way God works in our lives – he issues a call, then he backs it up with a promise, a pledge of what he will do if we obey. Promises are pictures of how our future will look as we dare to step out into God's call. Notice, though: if Moses hadn't acted on the promise, if he had refused to speak to Pharaoh, he would never have seen the miracle power at work in his life. He would never have known what a great prophet God had gifted him to be. When you receive a promise, you must act as if it will come to pass. Otherwise, it will remain a pleasant picture of what you might have been!

Prayer: 'Lord, help me to act on the promises you have made to me in your word. I want to take the risks they require of me so that I can discover the full power of my calling in you.'
