The Kingdom At Work

16 April 2024

2 Corinthians 4:7 'But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.'

God's Kingdom is not of this world. This Kingdom is not the kind of kingdom that a politician or bureaucrat can readily understand, for it is a place of changed hearts that give rise to an altered world. God's Kingdom is born inside our hearts – at the very moment that we surrender our lives to the rule of Christ's love. But the Kingdom can't possibly stay within us – it is much too powerful and too majestic to be bottled up in our flawed earthen vessels. It has to break and change the environment around you. More is accomplished by one person with a truly changed heart than by all the social activism and politics put together. Bob Pearce, founder of World Vision, once said that being great for God consisted of finding out what breaks God's heart and praying that it will break yours also. Mother Teresa often declared herself not to be a social worker, but primarily a woman of prayer.' Both of these Christians lived out what was within them – the power of God's Kingdom of love, mercy, reconciliation and justice. We need to let the greatness of God's power get out – in acts of compassion and mercy.

Prayer: 'Lord Jesus, help me today to allow the compassion of your Kingdom in my heart to make changes in the lives of others, so that the Kingdom spreads in my circle!'
